Recipe for chestnut stuffing

This recipe was given to me by a good friend. It is an old recipe within their family made every thanksgiving. I have modified it slightly to my preference

Ingredients

3 cups chestnuts
½ cup cream
½ cup butter
1 cup crackers
4 tbsp cream sherry
2 tbsp maple syrup

Steps

1 - Pre-heat oven to 350f
2 - Shell chestnuts and food process into small pieces, should be almost paste like
3 - Crush crackers into fine pieces
4 - Melt the butter and mix ¼ cup into cracker crumbs
5 - Mix the chestnuts cream, sherry, and cracker crumb butter combo and remaining ¼ butter together. If the batter seems dry, add more cream
6 - Transfer mix to 8x8 dish and bake for 30 minutes
7 - Let cool for 15 minutes and then serve

Notes

The dish originally contained no maple syrup and was incredibly savory. I really think the little bit of sweetness makes this better. The dish still comes out savory but that slight hint of maple and sweetness really elevates the dish. If you prefer, you could make the dish far more sweet than savory by doubling the amount of maple syrup and adding another 2tbsp of cream sherry. That variation is also incredible
